When you buy a household appliance, it is protected by a warranty that usually lasts 1 year from the date of purchase. This warranty is provided by the manufacturer and the store that sells you the oven, stove, refrigerator, washer or dryer you purchased. Some stores offer additional warranties for one or two additional years for a fee. But how to repair an appliance that is no longer under warranty? Here are different ways to repair or replace a defective appliance.
If you are looking for a trusted technician to have your appliances serviced, Helpmee.ca allows you to find a reliable and competent appliance repair technician in less than 30 minutes.
Repair a larger appliance under the manufacturer's warranty but paid in full with a credit card
If you bought a home appliance by paying for it with your credit card, chances are your credit card offers a one-year extended warranty for free. To get a refund for your repair, you will need to contact your credit card company, which will then open a file claim. They will ask you for proof of purchase and payment (an invoice, your payment statement). You can then have your device repaired. Subsequently, send the invoice for the repair. The subcontracting insurer of your credit card company will reimburse you for repair costs within 2 to 4 weeks.
Household appliance plus manufacturer's warranty paid in cash or with a debit card
If you paid for your home appliance with cash or with a debit card, you do not have additional warranty coverage other than that offered by the manufacturer and the seller. If a break occurs after the first year, then you must turn to the legal warranty that, given the price paid for your washer, dryer or refrigerator, these goods must have a reasonable life. But what is meant by reasonable life? For a washer, we're talking about 11 years, for a dryer, it's 12 years and 13 years for a refrigerator.
You must send your request for repair (or reimbursement of repair costs) to the seller and the manufacturer. If none of them take action, you must sue them in Small Claims Court. The delays are sometimes long but if you win, you will be reimbursed for repairs and legal fees incurred.
Repairs too are guaranteed!
It is important to know that repairs made by a repair technician for household appliances are guaranteed for a period of 3 months. This warranty applies to both labor and parts.
