If you suspect the presence of lead in the water that is routed to your home or business, you can take certain steps to protect yourself.

Change your lead water inlet

Your water inlet and some of your pipes may be made of lead. You will then have to change your lead pipes by a plumber who will replace them with pipes made of other materials.

Use a water filtration device

There are different ways to filter water:

- Filtering carafe

- Filter fixed at the tap

- Water filtering device that attaches under the sink

Each of these devices have advantages and disadvantages. See which one is best for your budget and your family's water use. It is important to change filters regularly.

Let the water run for a few minutes

When the water has spent several hours stagnating in the pipes (in the morning, after a day's work, after an absence, etc.), you should let the water run for 2 to 3 minutes before consuming it,

Do not use hot tap water or heated water to prepare food

Lead and other metals will be more soluble and mobile in hot water. Lead is two times more soluble in water of 25 °C compared to 15 °C. Do not use hot tap water directly to prepare a hot drink such as coffee or tea, or to prepare or cook food.

Clean the screens of faucets

It is important to regularly remove debris that can accumulate in the faucet sifters.
